YouTube Live stole one of Twitch’s best features

Youtube

YouTube introduced Live Redirects a few years back as a method for creators to host livestreams that concluded with viewers being sent to another video on their own channel for premiere events, such as BTS engaging fans before releasing a new music video.

It has now tweaked Live Redirects so that when live broadcasters on the site go down, their audience is sent to another livestream. One of the first large events to take use of the new element will be the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick on Wednesday. This is referred to as a raid on Twitch.

On the one side, it’s a terrific method to help expand audiences and discover new material, but it’s also a conduit for harassment on the site, as “hate raids” targeted minority streamers with abuse from hundreds of users at once.
